Yukine Kuroki has conquered the hearts of many in recent years winning both the Liszt Utrecht Competition and Dublin International Piano Competition in 2022 as well as being awarded third prize at the prestigious Rubinstein Competition in 2023. Her mastery of the instrument prompted leading Canadian pianist Janina Fialkowska to describe Kuroki as “A true poet at the piano, who can make you cry with a single note”.
The concert programme promises to be a wonderfully varied night of music starting off with Dubussy’s gentle and popular Clair de Lune. Liszt’s Transcendental Etudes comprise one of the great documents of musical romanticism. Stravinsky’s Firebird tells of the downfall of a powerful ogre-like figure of evil through the intervention of the Firebird – a beautiful rare bird. Minako Tokuyama’s piece is an amazing ‘fusion of traditional Japanese melodies and jazz’. The big climax, Rachmaninoff’s Sonata, is ‘a dream piece I wanted to play in concert. The final piece, Kapustin, is a perfect fusion of jazz and classical music, and you will be intoxicated!’ Yukine Kuroki
