Daniel Lebhardt

We look forward to welcoming Hungarian born pianist, Daniel Lebhardt, to Sligo. Described by the New York Times as playing with ‘…power, poetry and formidable technique’ Daniel has won multiple international prizes. He has performed worldwide in prestigious venues such as the Wigmore Hall and in many international festivals. 

An avid chamber musician, for this concert Daniel will be presenting a programme of pieces by Clara and Robert Schumann, and Franz Liszt. All these works were written in the second half of the 19th Century and they represent the height, and in the case of Liszt`s “Sunt Lacrimae Rerum” and “La Cloche Sonne”, the end of the romantic period. Ending the first half is Liszt`s most revered work for the solo piano, the Sonata in B Minor.

At the heart of the programme, Robert Schumann’s “Songs of the Morning” and “Ghost-Variations” together with Clara Schumann`s “Variations on a Theme by Robert Schumann” are a snapshot of the final year of their disintegrating marriage, immediately before Robert`s suicide attempt and his admission, at his own request, to a private sanatorium in Bonn. This tragic picture is framed with religious works by Franz Liszt, whose two Legends bookend the recital.
